Bay Area Scientists in Schools (BASIS) is one of the largest science outreach organizations in Berkeley, with over 500 scientist volunteers. BASIS volunteers teach fun, hands-on science lessons in local elementary classrooms. Most volunteers adopt tried-and-tested lessons; others choose to develop their own. It’s a great opportunity for researchers to make a broader impact with their work, and to build communication and outreach skills.
BASIS volunteers reach over 12,000 students per year, but still BASIS gets many more requests from teachers than we have volunteers available. We are currently looking to recruit additional post-doc volunteers. You can also reach out to teach@crscience.org or visit us online at http://www.crscience.org/volunteers/aboutbasis
