The Berkeley Lab Postdoc Association is an organization run by and for about 1000 postdocs and early career scientists working at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. We organize many activities to strengthen our ties to the Lab, to each other and to the (Berkeley) Bay Area. Our goal is to facilitate social interactions, scientific exchanges, seminars and general orientation.

Biotech by the Beach – Santa Cruz

On Saturday March 16, 2019, we went to Santa Cruz for a full day excursion. In the morning, we visited Startup Sandbox, a new biotechnology incubator. The director, Dr. Alireza Chavosh, gave us a tour of the lab as well as an overview of the program and services offer by Sandbox.  Startup Sandbox has recently welcomed its first new members into the 13,500 square foot facility. For only $900/month, you can rent a bench with access to all equipment as well as office and conference room.

After lunch, we went to TwoPoreGuys a startup company with technology is based on solid-state nanopores. Dr. Reto Stamm gave us a tour of the lab, showed us the different prototypes they have been working on.

After that, we split our group, some went for a walk on the beach when other visited UC Santa Cruz campus.

We met back all together for a chill end of the day at a brewery, West End Tap and Kitchen.
